Adelphi freshman Richard Byrd scored 17 points off the bench, as the Panthers outscored the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 20-10, over the final 6:03 of the game, as Adelphi rallied to post a 67-60 East Coast Conference men's basketball victory in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Adelphi is now 9-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play. Bridgeport falls to 5-11 overall and 3-6 in the East Coast Conference.
Byrd's 17 points led a balanced Adelphi attack that had four players in double figure scoring, as Chris Diasparra (16 points), Alvin Vivican (12 points) and Sky Khaleel (10 points) joined Byrd in double digits. Mike McDuffie led all rebounders in the game with 10.
The Panthers held a decided advantage on the boards, as Adelphi outrebound Bridgeport, 42-29, for the game and had 12 second chance points, to the Purple Knights' two.
Junior Teairez Stennis led three UB players in double figures with 12 points. He was joined in double figures by senior Lex James and freshman Marquis Moore, who each netted 10 points.
The foul line also proved to be a key in the win for Adelphi, as the Panthers hit 17 of 22 from the line (77.3%); while Bridgeport struggled hitting only 53.8 percent of its free throws (14 of 26).
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, January 23 when they travel to Brookville, New York for a 7:00 pm match-up with C.W. Post.
