The Adelphi men's basketball team played host to East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Dowling College on Wednesday, January 16. The Panthers hit 30-32 free throw attempts to secure an 82-66 victory. The win raises Adelphi's record to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while Dowling falls to 2-12 overall and 2-6 in conference action.
The Panthers jumped out to a double digit lead early, outscoring Dowling, 15-5 over the first seven and a half minutes, moving out to a 10 point lead. From there the Golden Lions battled back, cutting the margin to just six points with 4:51 on the clock before Adelphi scored eight unanswered points to enter the half with a 14 point bulge, 34-20.
The second half looked to be more of the same as Adelphi took a, 44-28 lead with 16:41 on the clock on a Pat Luptowski made three-pointer. However, Dowling responded with a 13-1 run to pull to within four points with 13:27 on the clock. But, that was as close as the Golden Lions would get as Adelphi claimed an 82-66 win.
David Seagers led the Golden Lions with 21 points, four rebounds and two assists. Mike Hill chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds, while James St. Roberts added 10 points and five boards.
Alvin Vivican led four Panthers in double figures with 21 points, two rebounds and two assists. Chris Diasparra scored 19, while Richard Byrd added 13 and Sky Khaleel chipped in 12 points and six rebounds. Mike McDuffie pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in the win.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 19 when they travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut for a 3:00 pm match-up with the University of Bridgeport.
