Bowling Competes at FDU Holiday Jamboree

Glassboro, NJ - The Adelphi University bowling team traveled to Glassboro, New Jersey on December 27, 28 and 29 to close out 2007 at the FDU Holiday Jamboree. The Panthers met with mixed results as they took on 10 nationally ranked opponents and posted a tournament record of 6-9, placing ninth overall.

The tournament started well with Adelphi defeating Howard University 830-725. The Panthers then faced sixth ranked host FDU and held a late lead, but FDU rallied back and claimed a victory by the slimmest of margins 822-823. In their third match of day one #18 St. Peter College claimed a decisive 815-871 victory, while Sacred Heart University rolled past Adelphi, 888-938 and followed that up with an 820-959 loss to Morgan State. The Panthers closed out day one with a record of 1-4.

Day two action saw Adelphi open up again #14 Southern University. The match came down to the last ball of the 10th frame with the Panthers outlasting Southern 845-841. Adelphi then faced Kutztown University picking up a 863-687 win and followed that up with a victory over Cheyney State, 769-482. #7 NJCU bowled past Adelphi, 853-1022, while Delaware State handed the Panthers their second loss of the day, 804-863. Adelphi finished out day two with a record of 3-2.

Day three action saw the Panthers struggle against #3 Maryland Eastern Shore as UMES rallied back from a 46 pin deficit to beat the Panthers 712-752. Adelphi returned to the plus column defeating #16 St. Francis College 756-700. In their third match of the day Adelphi took on #19 Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Panthers took a 41 pin lead into the fourth and deciding game, but UWW rolled a 190 to 142 for Adelphi and the War Eagles collected a 7 pin win, 668-675.

Howard University avenged an earlier loss picking up a win over Adelphi, 653-740. Morgan State University was the last opponent of the 15 game tournament for the Panthers. Adelphi finished strong by winning 712-634.

The JV team also competed in fifteen games while at the tournament. The Panthers were led by LuAnna Lasso, who compiled a 7-5 record during the lead up to the championship round. The Adelphi JV squad which was third in total pinfall, fell to UMES in the semifinals. The Panthers then dropped the consulation game to Sacred Heart.

The Panthers return to action on January 12 when they travel to Staten Island, new York to compete in the St. Francis College New Year Knockdown. Jan. 12-13 in Staten Island.
