The Adelphi University women's soccer team shut out Holy Family, 4-0, in a non-conference outing this afternoon. The Panthers even their record at 2-2, while the Tigers fall to 0-4.
Sophomore Caitlin Morrison (Beacon, N.Y.) scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the fourth minute of play off a cross from senior Denise Auer (Holbrook, N.Y.). The Panthers held onto to a 1-0 advantage through half-time.
In the second half, freshman Brianne McDonnell (Commack, N.Y.) made it a 2-0 affair on a corner kick from sophomore Amanda Popoli (South Salem, N.Y.) at 54:45. Senior Jacki Walsh (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) netted the third Adelphi goal in the 65th minute on a feed from junior Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.). Klimkowski followed with a solo shot in the 84th minute.
On the game, Adelphi outshot Holy Family 22-4 and held a 6-1 corner kick advantage.
Senior Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made two stops in 80:00 minutes of play, while freshman Angela Matinale (Port Washington, N.Y.) saw time in the net in the final 10:00 minutes. Kelly McGorgan had 10 saves for the Tigers.
Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, September 9, as they travel to Lock Haven University. Game time is 12 noon.
