Men's Soccer Ousted in Overtime by Longwood, 2-1

Queens, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team played host to Atlantic Soccer Conference opponent Longwood University in Queens, New York at Belson Stadium. The Panthers struck first, but Longwood scored a late goal to force overtime and picked up the win in the extra periods. The loss leaves Adelphi searching for their first win of the season at 0-7-2 and 0-1 in ASC play, while Longwood evens their record at 3-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Adelphi wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just 8:40 into the action as Longwood attempted to clear the ball out of their own box and Kemalie Preston blocked the attempt, sending the ball back toward the Lancer goal. Preston collected the ball and streaked in on the left side, slipping the ball past Longwood goalie Brandt Youmans, giving Adelphi a 1-0 advantage.

For the next 80 minutes Adelphi and Longwood exchanged chances, with both goalkeepers making strong saves. But i nthe final minute of action the Lancers pressured the Panther goal and broke through with just seconds remaining when Trey Thornton headed a Yaron Bacher cross over the hands of a diving Vincent Treglia and into the Adelphi goal.

Just over four minutes into the second overtime Longwood put the game away as Sean Harney collected a Chernor Diallo cross field pass and slipped the ball into the Panther net, giving Longwood a 2-1 win.

Treglia made four saves to keep Adelphi in the game, while Youmans collected two.

The Panthers return to action on October 3 when they travel to Princeton, New Jersey for a 7:30 pm meeting with the Tigers.
