Sophomore Caitlin Morrison (Beacon, N.Y.) tallied two goals to lead the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 4-1 conference victory over NYIT on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 5-2 and 2-0 in the ECC, while the Bears fall to 3-5 and 0-1 in league play.
Adelphi struck first with Morrison scoring off of a rebound in the box just 3:05 into the game. NYIT evened the score in the 41st minute as Stephanie Bradbury found the back of the net on a direct kick. Junior Amanda Herrera (Lafayette, CO) notched the eventual game-winner as the clock expired on the first half on an 18-yard shot to push the Panthers ahead, 2-1.
Junior Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.) made it a 3-1 effort on a feed from Kristen Dexter (Beacon, N.Y.) in the 51st minute. Morrison picked up her second goal just three minutes later when she beat the NYIT goalkeeper on a break away.
Senior Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had two saves, while Jenna Ament made five stops for the Bears.
The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, September 25, when they host Dowling College at 4:00 p.m. at Tully Field.
