Sophomore forward Caitlin Morrison (Beacon, N.Y.) scored twice for the Panthers as the Adelphi University women's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision against Bryant University Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs improve to 1-0 in their season-opener while the Panthers fall to 0-2.
Junior midfielder Amy Orzechowski scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute, as she took a cross from Holly Tyser and headed into the goal.
Morrison evened the score at one at 31:51 on a feed from sophomore midfielder Amanda Popoli (South Salem, N.Y.), before the Bulldogs pulled ahead in the 43rd minute. Bryant pushed its lead to 3-1 in the 76th minute on a goal by Kristin Fisher.
Morrison came right back, cutting the lead to one as she beat Bryant goaltender Jessica Neales on a booming shot from just outside the box.
Tyser sealed the victory for the Bulldogs seven minutes later on an assist from Fisher.
The Panthers offense managed just six shots, while the Bulldogs fired off 22 shots. Bryant also held an 11-0 corner kick advantage over Adelphi.
Senior Christine Conway made 11 saves in goal for Adelphi while Neales had two stops.
Adelphi returns to action next Monday, September 1, as they travel to Stonehill College for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
