Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener To #14 Saint Rose

Aug. 23, 2007

Albany, N.Y. - The 14th-ranked College of Saint Rose women's soccer team capitalized with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation to earn a 1-0 non-conference decision over Adelphi University this afternoon at Albany Academy.

Saint Rose (1-0) junior forward Kailey Egbert came up with the game-winner in the 79th minute when she fired a shot inside the near post past the outstretched hands of Panthers goalie Christine Conway. Freshman forward Jazmine Farrell created the opportunity after turning the corner on the end line and feeding Egbert with a diagonal pass.

Adelphi (0-1) had its best scoring threat of the contest 10 minutes in. Freshman midfielder Brianne McDonnell hit a shot from 20-yards out that was tipped over the crossbar by Saint Rose sophomore goalie Shannon Murphy. It was one of two shots Murphy was forced to stop in 90 minutes of action en route to her second career victory between the posts.

Conway turned away three shots having played all 90 minutes in goal for the Panthers. Additionally, the Golden Knights held an 8-4 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks for the match.

Adelphi will continue its seven-game road trip by paying a visit to Bryant University on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
