The No. 8 Adelphi University softball team fell to Dowling College, 2-1, in eight innings in the semi-final round of the East Coast Conference (ECC) Tournament. The Panthers (38-11) finish third, while the Golden Lions (34-16) advance to the finals against No.16 C.W. Post.
Dowling's Taras Wallace doubled to left field then scored on an error to make it a 1-0 game in the first inning. Adelphi evened the score in the fourth as junior Julie Schaper's single to left field drove in sophomore Samantha Johnston who singled then advanced to third on a throwing error.
Kacie Pinto scored the game-winning run when she singled then advanced to third on an error. A sacrifice hit by Keri Boystak drove in Pinto for the win.
Jackie Rogers (14-4) recorded the win with six hits, one run, two walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Christine Robinson (9-2) gave up six hits, two runs and struck out four in the loss.
Next up, the Panthers, who are ranked third in the latest Northeast Regional poll, await the NCAA selection show scheduled for Monday, May 7, at 8:00 a.m. (ET) to determine their seeding in the NCAA Northeast Regional Tournament. The regionals will take place on the campus of C.W. Post from May 10-14.
