Baseball Drops Dowling, 15-7

Oakdale, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team jumped on Dowling College early, putting up nine runs in the first three innings of action on their way to a 15-7 East Coast Conference (ECC) victory. The win improves Adelphi's record to 28-13 overall and 19-5 in the conference, while Dowling falls to 20-16 overall and 15-8 in conference play.

Mike Testani had a strong day at the plate, going 3-5 with four RBI, three runs scored and a home run. Chris Weidlein (1-6) and Ralph Tropiano (3-6) both drove in three runs, while Weidlein scored two.

The Panthers opened the game hot, getting a lead off home run from Rob DeGennaro and following that up with a fielder's choice that made the scored 2-0. A Golden Lion error and a Tropiano single pushed the lead to 4-0 after just one half inning.

Dowling got two runs back in the bottom of the first, but the Panthers posted four more runs on the board in the second to push the score to 8-2. The first two runs came courtesy of a Testani double and a sacrifice fly, while the last two were driven in by a Tropiano single.

A Mike Colonna solo home run in the top of the third gave Adelphi a 9-2 lead that the Golden Lions would not recover from. Bobby Lanigan threw 7.2 innings allowing nine hits and striking out 12 to collect the 15-7 win.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, May 5 when they travel to Brookville, New York for a doubleheader with C.W. Post.
