Box Score
Rindge, NH -
The Adelphi University baseball team gave Mike Myers a 2-0 lead before he even took the mound against Caldwell College on May 18. That was more then Myers would need, throwing a complete game four hit shut out to lead the Panthers to a 4-0 victory. The win moves Adelphi to the third round while tying the school record for wins in a season with 35.
Rob DeGennaro led off the game with a double to left center and was brought home two batters later by a Mike Testani double to right center. A Bill Melillo single to right moved Testani to third, where he was driven by a Ryan Boelsen ground out to second, giving Adelphi a 2-0 cushion after just half an inning.
The Panthers tacked on a third run in the third inning when a Melillo fly out to center scored Mike Colonna, who opened the inning with a single up the middle. That was more then enough run support for Myers, who gave up just four hits in nine innings of work, including giving up just one hit in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game.
With the win Myers remains perfect at 10-0, and he picked up his eighth complete game of the season. The Panthers managed eight hits in the win, including two each by DeGennaro, Colonna and Testani.
The Panthers will face #11 Franklin Pierce in the third round with a berth to the championship game on the line. The first pitch will be thrown at 11:00 am in Rindge, New Hampshire.
