Baseball Advances to ECC Championship Game with, 10-6, win over C.W. Post

Oakdale, N.Y. - The #1 Adelphi University Panthers head to the Finals of the 2007 ECC Tournament after defeating the #3 C.W. Post Pioneers, 10-6 on May 12. The Panthers improve to 32-14 while the Pioneers drop to 28-18.

Tim Sylvester (Farmingdale, NY) opened for the Pioneers with a lead-off home run in the first, but the Panthers knotted the score at 1-1 as Ryan Boelsen (Garden City, NY) answered with his own solo shot over center field.

C.W. Post sent another ball out of the park in the bottom of the third, this time off the bat of Kyle Walker (Wantaugh, NY). The Pioneer bats continued to swing as Joe Mare (Whitestone, NY), Frank Carrotta (Glen Cove, NY) and Brian Anderson (Nesconset, NY) connected for base hits to push to a 5-1 hold.

The homerun derby continued as Adelphi's Mike Testani (Williston Park, NY) drilled one over the left center fence in the fourth to chip away at the Pioneers lead (5-2). Chris Viscuso (Farmingdale, NY) knotted the score 5-5 in the sixth as he connected for the game's fifth homerun, a three run crack to centerfield.

The Panther momentum continued in the seventh with a five hit, four run rally which sealed the 10-6 win, sending the Pioneers one step closer to elimination.

Testani led the panthers with three hits, three runs and two RBI while Boelsen pitched in with three hits of his own and two runs and an RBI.

Mike Myers (Wantaugh, NY) earned the win, improving to an impeccable 9-0 with six strikeouts on the day. Anderson led the Pioneer bats going 3-for-3 with a run and Mare pitched in with three hits and a RBI and a run.

Adelphi will face C.W. Post at 11 am on Sunday, May 13 with the ECC Tournament Championship on the line.
