May 12, 2007

Box Score

Oakdale, N.Y. - Sophomore Bobby Lanigan threw nine innings of scoreless baseball, striking out eight and walking just three to lead Adelphi to a 5-0 victory over Dowling in the second round of the East Coast Conference (ECC) playoffs. With the win the Panther improve to 31-14 overall and advance to face C.W. Post in the third round with a bid to the championship game on the line.

Rob DeGennaro led the game off with a single and Mike Colonna followed that with a bunt single, placing runners on first and second. Mike Testani reached on an error and Bill Melillo hit into a double but scored DeGennaro, giving Adelphi a 1-0 lead. The next batter was Ryan Boelsen who singled up the middle, scoring Colonna and giving the Panthers a 2-0 cushion after one inning.

Adelphi pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third when Boelsen drove in his second run of the game on a single to right. That was more then enough for Lanigan who allowed just six hits and gave up no runs to collect the 5-0 win.

The Panthers return to action at noon on Saturday, May 12 when they take on #3 C.W. Post with a trip to the championship game on the line.
