Adelphi Rolls Past Philadelphia, 17-11

Philadelphia, PA - With the score knotted 6-6 at the half, the #3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team outscored #10 Philadelphia University 11-5 in the second stanza to cruise to a 17-11 victory. The Panthers improve to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in the ECC, while the Lady Rams drop to 4-1 and 1-1 in conference play.

Senior Lauren Lopez tallied four of her game-high five goals in the second half to lead Adelphi. Sophomore Rachel Ray had three goals and three assists, while freshman Allison Tumulty chipped in all three of her goals in the second half.

Freshman Holly Burke put the Panthers up early on a dish from senior Meghan Blume in the fifth minute of play. Lopez made it a 2-0 game on a feed from sister Diana four minutes later. The Lady Rams answered back to tie the score, 2-2, midway through the first half. After trading goals, Philadelphia took its first lead as Brooke Woodland found the back of the net in the 21st minute. Blume evened the score before Philadelphia pulled ahead again on back-to-back goals by Maggie Bornhorst. The Panther regrouped with goals from D. Lopez and freshman Danielle Kafarski to close the half, 6-6.

It was all Adelphi in the second half, as they outscored the host, 11-5. Senior Tara Grodotzke put the Panthers up for good on a feed from D. Lopez in the 32nd minute. Midway through the half, the Panthers rattled off five unanswered goals to push its lead to 14-7. L. Lopez scored the final Adelphi goal at 56:20, 17-9. Philadelphia made a late surge in the last minute, adding two to close the game, 17-11.

Senior Allison Murphy had 10 saves in 56:46 in the net for the win. Freshman Caitlin Fitzpatrick had one save in the remaining 3:14. Elizabeth Hulfish recorded the loss for Philadelphia, making 11 saves in 36:17. Kelly Staerk played 23:43, giving up eight goals while stopping five.

Adelphi is back in action on Wednesday, April 11, as they travel to Rockville Centre to take on Molloy College at 4:00 p.m.
