Men's Lacrosse Drops, 15-11, Decision to Dowling

Oakdale, N.Y. - Senior Michael Gongas led the Panthers with five points, but it was not enough as Adelphi fell to host Dowling, 15-11. Dowling improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the ECC as the Panthers fall to 5-7 with a 1-4 mark in conference play.

Adelphi came out on fire in the first quarter, outscoring the Golden Lions 4-2. Dale Pescitelli connected just a minute and a half into play to put the Panthers on the scoreboard, but Dowling answered with a goal Kyle O'Brien. The Panthers bumped to a 3-1 advantage with back to back tallies from Brandon Butler and Ian Kuchta. John McClure snuck one in with 22 seconds left in the quarter to inch Dowling within one, but Jesse Corben beat the buzzer after he won the face-off to push Adelphi's lead to 4-2.

Jason Fietta opened the second quarter scoring but O'Brien converted a Ryan Campbell dish to pull to within 5-3. The Golden Lions took advantage of a Panther non-releasable, getting goals from Nick Cotter and CJ Leary to tie the score at five. McClure handed Dowling their first lead of the game as flicked in a pass from Leary with a minute and a half remaining in the half.

Dowling opened the second half scoring at the 10:19 mark, to take a two goal lead, 8-6. But, Adelphi answered back six minutes later getting goals from Brady O'Malley and Andrew Ashkenazy less then 30 seconds apart to knot the game at eight goals apeice.

The Golden Lions responded by scoring four straight goals, to take a 12-8 lead and put the game away.

The Panthers will close out the regular season on May 5, when they play host to Mercyhurst at 1:00 pm.
