Senior Tara Grodotzke tallied two of her team-high three goals in the first half to help the #4 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 20-7 win over Southern Connecticut this afternoon. The Panthers finish their 2007 home schedule with a 12-2 record, while the Owls drop to 3-10.
Grodtozke's first goal came in the first minute on a feed from senior Diana Lopez, who assisted on the first four goals of the game. Graduate students Lisa Maggiotta, along with seniors Lauren Lopez and Meghan Blume each scored in the initial 8-0 rally, as did sophomore Rachel Ray with two and freshman Danielle Kafarski. The Owls responded, to close the half on a 4-3 run. The Panthers led 11-4 at the half.
Adelphi outscored SCSU, 9-3, in the second half to cruise to victory. Maggiotta finished with two goals as did Blume and the Lopez sisters.
Sophomores Jeannine Holz and Laura Bennett and freshman Nicole Lieberman tallied one goal apiece.
Southern Connecticut's Allison Kownacki led all scorers with five goals.
Senior Allyson Murphy had six saves in 42:45 in goal. Freshman Cailtin Fitzpatrick made one stop in the final 17:15 of play. Lisa Corso had 14 saves for Southern Connecticut.
Adelphi will complete its 2007 regular season on the road as they travel to Bryant College on Saturday, April 28. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
