Adelphi Softball Edges Bridgeport

Game One|Game Two

Bridgeport, CT - The #25 Adelphi University softball team extended its win streak to 13 and 15 in the conference with a 2-1, 1-0 sweep of the University of Bridgeport this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 30-8 overall and 16-2 in the ECC. The Purple Knights fall to 11-29 and 5-13.

The Panthers have set a new Division II school record for most consecutive wins in a season with 13. The previous record of 12 wins was set in 2006. The longest overall win streak of 22 was set in 1984 when the team competed in Division I.

Game One
The Panthers struck early as sophomore Samantha Johnston singled then advanced on an error by the thirdbaseman. Sophomore Julie Schaper drove in Johnston on a single to left field. The Purple Knights evened the score in the third on a double from Landano. Freshman Christine Robinson drove in the winning run in the fourth inning on a double which brought home senior Alana daSilva.

Robinson pitched seven innings, allowing five hits while giving up one run and striking out four.

Adelphi had two runs on nine hits with no errors. Bridgeport had one run on five hits with two errors.

Game Two
Adelphi managed just four hits in 26 at-bats and it wasn't until the top of the seventh that they got on board. With the bases loaded, sophomore Christina O'Hara singled to bring in Schaper who reached on a single before advancing to third on consecutive Bridgeport errors.

Schaper recorded her 14th win of the season, and sixth straight, in a three-hit effort, striking out 10 and walking one.

Adelphi had one run on four hits with no errors. Bridgeport had no runs on three hits with two errors.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow, hosting Concordia College at 3:00 p.m.
