Freshman Allison Tumulty tallied three of her career-best five goals in the second half to lead the #4 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 22-6 win over St. Thomas Aquinas this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 11-2 and 5-1 in the ECC while the Lady Spartans fall to 5-9 and 0-4 in league play.
Tumulty scored her first goal 31 seconds into the contest on a feed from sophomore Rachel Ray as the Panthers opened on a 12-0 run. Senior Lauren Lopez scored three times in the rally, while Ray and freshman Danielle Kafarski contributed two apiece during the 15 minute stretch. STAC snapped the run as Kim DeLorenzo scored two of the next three goals. Nicole Lieberman made it 13-3 with 5:56 remaining. The Lady Spartans had the last word, with Aime Colon scoring with 12 seconds on the clock.
Adelphi's offense continued its onslaught in the second half, outscoring St. Thomas Aquinas, 9-2. Lieberman finished the day with three goals, as did Kafarski. Graduate student Lisa Maggiotta had two in the last ten minutes, including the final goal at 1:38 on a dish from junior Caitlin Hilbert.
Senior Allyson Murphy had three saves in the first half, while freshman Caitlin Fitzpatrick had two stops in the second. Kaily Brown had 15 saves for St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday, April 24,hosting Southern Connecticut at 4:00 p.m. This is also the last home game fo the season for Adelphi and its seven seniors will be honored before the start of the contest.
