The Adelphi baseball team used a 10-run ninth inning to erase an 11-5 deficit and defeat the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights 15-11. The win improves Adelphi's overall record to 25-9 and 16-2 in the East Coast Conference. Bridgeport falls to 14-9 and 11-6 in the ECC.
Adelphi started off the scoring when Mike Testani doubled to left field, bringing home Rob DeGennaro. The score would remain the same until the third inning when Bridgeport would start to take over the game.
The Purple Knights went up 3-1 after a bunt single from Rob Parisian and a two RBI single by Joseph Misinonile. The Panthers would earn back one run, before Bridgeport put together another three run inning in the fifth and added one more in the sixth, taking a commanding 7-2 lead.
The Panthers would start to climb back into the game in the seventh as DeGennaro hit a triple bringing home Rob Paccione. Then a two out, two RBI single by Ryan Boelsen would bring Adelphi within two, 7-5.
Bridgeport would keep the Panthers at bay, scoring four in the bottom of the inning to take an 11-5 lead going into the ninth inning.
Adelphi clawed its way back into the game in the ninth, scoring ten runs off six hits and three errors. Mike Colonna would reach on an error bringing home two runs to tie the game at 11. Testani would then single to right center scoring the go ahead run. Melillo cranked out a three run home run to put the Panthers ahead in what would prove to be the final score, 15-11.
Adelphi returns to action when they travel to Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on the Setters of Pace University on Tuesday, April 24.
