After a 6-3 first half, the #4 ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team registered 16 goals in the second half to cruise to a 22-11 victory over Philadelphi University this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 10-2 while the Lady Rams drop to 5-2.
Adelphi opened to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal from senior Diana Lopez, but Philadelphia responded on a 3-0 run to take the lead, 3-1, at 24:16. Freshman Allison Tumulty tallied two of her four goals in the 5-0 rally, including the final goal of the half with 1:11 remaining to give the Panthers a 6-3 advantage.
Freshman Danielle Kafarski made it 8-3 by netting back-to-back goals in the opening minutes of the second half. Then the Panthers seemed to go cold, allowing the Lady Rams to outscore them, 6-2, over the next 10 minutes to close to within with one, 10-9, with 12:44 left to go. Senior Lauren Lopez contributed two of her game-high five goals at 12:25 and again at 12:04, to spur Adelphi. The Panthers collected 12 goals in the final 12:25 of play, with D. Lopez finishing with four. Sophomore Rachel Ray had three goals to go along with a game-high five assists. Freshman Brittany Fronczak made it 22-10 with 1:29 left in regulation.
Senior Allyson Murphy had six saves in 52:14 minutes for the win. Kelly Staerk made five stops for Philadelphia.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, April 24, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas at 4:00 p.m.
