Parsippany, NJ -
The Adelphi baseball team posted 22 hits and scored 15 runs in a 15-8 non-conference victory over host Caldwell College. The wins extends Adelphi's win streak to nine games and brings their overall record up to 22-9, while Caldwell falls to 16-7.
Adelphi trailed 2-1 after one inning of play, but scored four runs in the second, three courtesy of a Ralph Tropiano three-run bomb to left center, to ext the second frame with a 5-2 lead. The Panthers extended their lead to 8-2 in the top of the fourth, with all three Adelphi runs scoring on a Ryan Boelsen home run to dead center.
However, the Panthers gave back four runs in the bottom of the fourth on a Caldwell grand slam to left center, that pulled the Cougars within striking distance at 8-6. Both teams were held scoreless for the next three innings, but Adelphi rallied in the top of the eighth and the ninth, scoring seven total runs on seven hits, including another Boelsen home run.
Four Adelphi hurlers took the mound to secure the win, while Jason Intelasano picked up the win after throwing the first three innings, allowing five runs and striking out seven. Dave Salemi pitched three innings of one run, three-hit relief and Chris Lewandowski and Frank Valeriano split the last three innings of work to close out Caldwell.
Boelsen swung the big bat for Adelphi, driving in six runs and scoring one, while going 4-5 with a walk. Tropiano also had a good day, going 2-4 with four RBI and one run scored, while Mike Testani chipped in two RBI, four runs and hit in four of six plate appearances.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 21 when they host Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference doubleheader starting at noon.
