The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team used a 10-4 first half to cruise to a 15-8 victory over Molloy College this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 8-1 and 3-1 in league play while the Lions fall to 3-8 and 0-2 in the ECC.
It took just 29 seconds for freshman Allison Tumulty to tally the first of her three goals for the early lead. Senior Tara Grodotzke made it a 2-0 game in the third minute. Molloy got on board at 26:02 before the Panthers responded on an 8-0 run. Freshman Danielle Kafarski scored two of her three goals in the rally. Trailing by nine, the Lions added three goals in the final 4:43 of the half, but the Panthers still led 10-4.
Grodotzke opened the second half scoring on an assist from sophomore Rachel Ray at 27:08. Ray then found the back of the net at 26:38 to make it a 12-4 game. Molloy used two free position shots to shrink the margin before Tumulty, Ray and Kafarski combined to push the lead back to 15-6. The Lions managed two more goals, one on a free position in the remaining minutes of play.
In a very physical game which saw eight penalties, Adelphi held a 37-26 shot advantage over Molloy. The Panthers dominated the flow of much of the game, grabbing 17 of 25 draw controls.
Senior Allyson Murphy made 11 saves for Adelphi while Alicia Frisch made 14 stops for Molloy.
The Panthers are back in action this Sunday, April 15, when they host Stonehill College at 12:00 noon.
