The Adelphi baseball team gave up a leads in both games of a double header, played in Petersburg, Virginia against the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, falling 9-8 in game one and 10-8 in game two. The sweep evens Adelphi's overall record at 2-2, while UML improves to 2-2.
In the first game the Panthers lead 1-0 after one half inning, but gave up four runs in the bottom of the inning on four hits. Adelphi managed to pick up one run in the second and third innings and then erupted for four runs in the top of the fourth on five hits, taking a 7-4 lead.
The Riverhawks picked up one run in the bottom of the fifth to pull within 7-5, before coming all the way back to take an 8-7 lead thanks to three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Adelphi tied the game at eight on a fielder's choice in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the inning the UML picked up the win when Teddy Rohrs hit a UML batter with the bases loaded, sending the winning run home.
The Panthers took an early lead in the second game as well, scoring five runs in the top of the first thanks to two doubles. However, Adelphi gave back four runs on six hits in the bottom of the first and led just 5-4. From there UML scored five runs over the next three innings, while holding Adelphi scoreless to take a 9-4 lead en route to a 10-8 victory.
Rohrs was credited with the loss in game one, while UML's Pat Donovan picked up the victory. Mike McLasky was charged with the loss in the second game and Joe Malzone collected the win.
Chris Weidlein played well going 2-4 with four RBI and a run scored, while Mike Testani was 2-6 with three RBI and one run.
Adelphi returns to action on March 10 when they take on Felician in Palm Beach, Florida.
