Baseball Downs Mercy, 9-3

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team scored at least one run in six innings, pulling out a 9-3 win over visiting Mercy College. The victory is Adelphi's fifth win in a row and raises their overall record to 10-5 and 3-0 in the East Coast Conference, while Mercy remains winless at 0-14 and 0-3 in the conference.

The Panthers took control early, scoring four runs in the first two innings of play on four hits. Adelphi continued putting runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth, adding one run in that inning and four more over the next three to take a 9-1 lead and put the game out of reach.

Mike Scudero pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out eight, while Mercy's Sean Braille was credited with the loss.

Mike Colonna was 4-4 on the day with one RBI, while Bill Melillo and Bobby Calca were 2-4 each. Melillo scored two runs and added an RBI on a home run and Calca picked up two RBI. Ralph Tropiano also had a strong day at the plate, going 1-1 with three runs scored.

Adelphi returns to action on March 28 when they host Queens College at 3:30 pm.
