Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team defeated the University of New Haven, 15-10, on Saturday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers improve to 4-0 and 1-0 in the ECC, while the Chargers fall to 1-2 and 0-1 in the conference.
Freshman Allison Tumulty gave Adelphi the early lead on a free position shot in the second minute of play. Senior Lauren Lopez rattled off two of her four goals to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Senior Meghan Blume notched the first of her four goals at 24:58, with sophomore Rachel Ray and senior Diana Lopez rounding out the 6-0 rally. UNH had the last word of the half as they scored twice to make it 6-2.
Lauren scored thirty seconds into the second half on a dish from sister, Diana, to make it 7-2. The Chargers answered, before Ray and Blume combined to push the lead to 9-3. Sarah LeGoff scored her second goal of the day on an assist from Brigid Brady, 9-4, at 20:40. Ray and Blume each tallied their third goal in response. Adelphi outscored UNH 4-1 over the next seven minutes to lead 15-5 with 6:24 remaining.
Up by ten points, the Panther bench entered in relief. This gave way to a offensive run by the Chargers, as they rattled off five unanswered goals in the remaining 4:23 of play. However the deficit was too great to overcome as Adelphi held on for the win, 15-10.
L.Lopez and Blume each had four goals, with D. Lopez adding two plus three assists. The Chargers were led by Brady and LeGoff with three goals each.
Senior Allyson Murphy had seven saves in the win. Alison Wagner made nine stops for New Haven.
Adelphi returns to conference action on Thursday, March 29, as they travel to Old Westbury to take on C.W. Post at 4:00 p.m.
