Adelphi Splits With Dowling

Game One|Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team opened its 2007 home schedule with a 1-1 meeting against Dowling College this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Lions took game one in ten innings, before the Panthers rallied, 4-2, in game two.

Senior Alana daSilva was 3-6 on the day, while sophomores Samantha Johnston and Diana DiPiano had two RBI, apiece.

Game One
Neither team managed more than one hit in any inning through the ninth. International rules prevailed in the tenth inning, putting a runner on second to start. Dowling's Jackie Hannan blasted a two-run homer in the first at bat to put the Lions up for good.

Junior Julie Schaper (2-3) pitched the complete game, giving up six hits while striking out eight and walking one. Jackie Rogers allowed eight hits while striking out three for the win.

Adelphi had no runs on eight hits and one error. Dowling had two runs on six hits with no errors.

Game Two
Hannan contined her strong hitting in game two with a two-run homer in the top of the first to give Dowling the early lead. The Panthers rallied in the fifth, as Johnston knocked one over the fence, bringing home senior Kristina LoCastro who reached on a double. In the sixth inning, sophomore Jessica Vogt advanced to second on an error followed by Schaper who singled then stole second. DiPiano gave Adelphi the win on a two run single to bring home Schaper and Vogt.

Junior Samantha Tilton pitched five innings, for nine hits and two runs. Freshman Christine Robinson (2-0) collected the win allowing two hits in the final two innings of play.

Adelphi had four runs on six hits with no errors. Dowling had two runs on 11 hits with two errors.

The Panthers are 7-5 on the season and 1-1 in the ECC. Adelphi returns to action this Saturday, March 24, as they host American International College at 1:00 p.m.
