The Adelphi University women's basketball team picked up its fourth straight victory with a decisive 80-62 win over Mercy College, in conference action on Thursday night at Dobbs Ferry. The Panthers improve to 11-10 and 10-4 in the ECC. The Flyers drop to 6-14 and 4-11 in the league.
Junior Gianna Smith led all scorers with 26 points along with 11 rebounds, including eight offensive. Junior Mary Lepore tallied 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Graduate student Valentina Ionova chipped in 14 points.
Adelphi, which shot 45 percent in the first stanza, led 36-30 at the half. The Flyers knotted the score at 52-52 with nine minutes remaining before the Panthers rallied on a 28-10 run to solidify the win.
Adelphi shot 50 percent in the game, pulling down 45 rebounds and collecting 17 assists.
Jazmin Steele led the Flyers with 25 points. Christina Baxter had 10 points.
The Panthers look to extend its win streak to five when they travel to the University of New Haven on Saturday, February 10. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
