But, Adelphi scored the next five points to push the lead back to six, 20-14, with 9:52 remaining in the first half.

From there St. Thomas Aquinas took over, closing out the half on a 22-7 run to enter the locker room with a comfortable 37-27 bulge.

The Panthers immediately cut into the Spartans lead, out scoring St. Thomas Aquinas, 13-6, over the first 5:40 to pull within three points, 43-40, on a Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jumper. The Spartans responded with back-to-back three-pointers to slip out to a nine-point lead, 49-40, with 12:11 on the clock.

However, Adelphi would not quit, chipping away at the Spartan lead and taking their first lead of the second half, 52-51, on a Donnell Cummings (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) made free throw with 2:26 remaining. The Adelphi lead was short lived as St. Thomas Aquinas scored just 18 seconds later to retake the lead for good, 53-52, on their way to a 61-54 victory.
