The Adelphi men's basketball team shot 64 percent in the first half, building an insurmountable 51-22 halftime lead against Molloy College on senior night. The, 76-52, victory raises Adelphi's record to 15-12 overall and 12-8 in the East Coast Conference (ECC), while Molloy closes out the regular season, 14-13 overall and 11-9 in conference play.
The Panthers came out red hot, jumping out to an, 11-2 lead with 15:19 before Molloy responded with a 9-5 run that cut the Adelphi advantage to five, 16-11, with 13:47 on the clock. At that point the Panthers erupted, using a 20-4 spurt over a period of eight minutes to break the game wide open and take a 36-15 lead.
From there the Panthers kept the pressure on, holding Molloy to just seven points in the final five minutes of the first half, while putting another 15 points on the board to enter the break with a 51-22 edge.
Adelphi put the game away in the first seven minutes of the second half, using an 11-2 run to extend their lead to 38 points, 62-24, with 12:41 remaining. Molloy was able to cut the lead to 22, with 1:25 remaining, before falling 76-52.
Curtis Arnold and Glenn Martin were the only Lions in double figures. Arnold scored 11, while Martin added 10.
Mike Mosby (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) led the Panthers with 23 points and eight rebounds, while Donnell Cummings (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) chipped in 15 points and five rebounds. Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Samuel Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also reached double digits. Blaize scored 14, while Jenkins went for 10 points and added six assists.
With the win, the Panthers secured the fourth seed in the ECC tournament and will play host to fifth seeded Queens College at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, February 28.
