Men's Basketball Falls to New Haven, 58-48

West Haven, CT - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled to West Haven, Connecticut to take on the University of New Haven in an East Coast Conference match-up. The Panthers fell behind early and could not recover, falling 58-48. The loss drops Adelphi to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the ECC, while New Haven improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

The Chargers opened the game on a 10-0 run while the Panthers missesd their first five shots. Adelphi came alive after that, staying close as New Haven outscored the Panthers just 21-18 in the remainder of the first half. Despite Adelphi's rally they entered the half trailing, 31-18.

New Haven led by as much as 15 with 19:10 remaining in the game, but Adelphi rallied, pulling to within six points (42-36) with 8:46 left.

The Chargers responded with a steal plus an "and-one" layup at the other end to push the lead back out to nine, 45-36. A free throw just under the seven minute mark pushed New Haven's lead back into double digits, where it remained until the Panthers made the score 54-46 with 44 seconds left. However, that was as close as Adelphi would get down the stretch, falling 58-48.

Tetrick Sonar led the Chargers with 12 points and six rebounds, while Cassius Chaney chipped in 11 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.

Sky Khaleel led the way for Adelphi with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Richard Byrd added nine points, while Chris Diasparra scored eight and pulled down five rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on December 15 when they play host to Caldwell at 3:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
