Junior Lisa Manetta poured in 18 points, all from three point range to lead the Adelphi University women's basketball team to a 77-67 conference win over Molloy College on Wednesday night at Woodruff Hall. The Panthers snap a three-game slump to improve to 1-3 and 1-0 in the ECC, while the Lions fall to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
Senior Gianna Smith had 15 points, while Hannah Coen chipped in 12 points. Junior Serita Lee had 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Molloy got on board first, but this would prove to be their only lead as the Panthers opened on a 16-8 run. Manetta collected 12 points in the first half, hitting her fourth three-pointer with 33 seconds remaining in the half to give the Panthers a 38-31 advantage.
Smith accounted for six of the first eight Panther points to open the second half as Adelphi extended its lead to 11, 50-39, at 15:33. The Panthers' lead ballooned to 20 points on a basket by senior Ashley Andrews with with 7:27 to go. Coen's back-to-back baskets maintained the lead through the four minute mark, 72-52. It's then that the Panthers seemed to go cold, missing its three remaining shots from the field while the Lions closed on a 12-5 run. Adelphi's margin proved to be too great as they held on for the win.
Kymira Woodberry led the Lions with a game-high 20 points and 14 boards. Randi Bender had 16 points.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, December 1, at NYIT. Tip off is at 2:00 pm.
