Men's Soccer Falls to Longwood in ASC Semis, 3-2

Farmville, VA - The Adelphi University men's soccer team led host Longwood 1-0 with just 22 minutes remaining, before giving up three goals and falling, 3-2 Friday at the Athletic Complex in an Atlantic Soccer Conference Tournament Semifinal match played in Farmville. The #3 seeded Panthers ended their season at 4-11-3 overall.

Longwood will play again on Sunday, November 18, at the Athletics Complex beginning at 2 p.m. for the ASC Tournament Championship against #1 Florida Atlantic who defeated #4 NJIT in Friday's other semifinal contest at the conference tournament being hosted by the Lancers.

Adelphi had the one-goal lead at the intermission of the highly-competitive and intense match courtesy of an early goal from ASC Player of the Year Patrick Figueiredo at 5:03. Figueiredo followed his own shot attempt off the keeper's hands to score his 12th goal of the year. It remained a 1-0 advantage for the Panthers through halftime before Longwood took advantage of a three-goal blitz during a 9:51 span about midway of the final period to move on the the conference tournament championship on Sunday.

Sophomore Chernor Diallo, a second-team ASC pick, tallied the first goal for the hosts at 68:34 when he took a nice pass off the left side from senior Sean Harney and finished with a one-touch into the net. Freshman Harvey Headley, also a second-team ASC pick, scored minutes later at 73:03, beating Adelphi goalkeper Vincent Treglia to the lower left corner after a feed up the middle from sophomore Brian Germain.

Headley added the game-winning goal a few minutes later at 78:25, this time unassisted when he beat the keeper outside the box one-on-one for a 3-1 advantage. Adelphi closed to within 3-2 on a late penalty-kick goal by Figueiredo at 81:26 following a foul in the box against the Lancers, but got no closer.

Longwood and Adelphi each took nine shots, though the Lancers had an 8-5 advantage on-goal, while each squad had five corner kicks. Senior keeper Brandt Youmans, played the entire match in front of the net with three saves. Vincent Treglia also went the distance in goal for the Panthers with five saves.
