Volleyball Knocks Off NYIT, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's volleyball team played host to East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent NYIT, posting 44 kills to the Bears 25, picking up a 3-0 victory. The win runs Adelphi's win streak to seven games, while improving their overall record to 15-4 and 2-1 in ECC play. The loss drops NYIT to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Adelphi jumped out to an 8-1 lead on the strength of seven straight points scored off of the serve of Brittany Addeo. NYIT would close to within 17-14 but could not get any closer, falling 30-22. The turning point in game two came as the Bears closed to within two points, 10-8, before the Panthers used a 6-0 run to move out to a 16-8 edge on the way to a 30-19 game two win.

The third game was again all Adelphi as the Panthers pushed out to an early 10-5 lead. The closest that NYIT would get was three points, 11-8, before dropping the game 30-20 and the match 3-0.

Samantha Johnston led the way for Adelphi with a game-high 11 kills and 11 digs, while teammate Amy Williams collected a game-high 16 digs. Addeo chipped in 39 assists.

Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, October 11 when they play host to Dowling College at 7:00 pm.
