Men's Soccer Tops Fordham, 2-1

(Bronx, NY) - Adelphi Men's soccer collected their first win of the season against the Fordham Rams, winning the non-conference match, 2-1. Patrick Figueiredo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) led the Panthers to victory, scoring both goals in the match.

The Panthers struck quickly, scoring their first goal of the game off a corner by Val Charalambous (Larnaka, Cyprus) during the five-minute mark. Charalambous' corner found Figueiredo, who in turn headed it into the net.

The Rams would answer the Panther's goal 15 minutes later with an unassisted netting by Grant Kerr. Kerr Gained control of a loose ball near the top of the box, and was able to beat Vincent Treglia (Brookville, N.Y.) in a one v. one situation and place the ball far post from 15 yards out.

The score remained unchanged until the 52-minute mark, when Figueiredo connected for his second goal of the game. Figueiredo picked up a loose ball at the top of the box, and was able to gain control and place a shot far corner from the just outside the penalty area. His goal would prove to be the deciding factor in the match.

Treglia made seven saves in goal and collected his first collegiate win, while on offense Adelphi out shot the Rams 11-9. The Panthers now move to 1-8-2 for the season, while the Rams fall to 1-5-3.

The Panthers will return to action this Saturday, October 13,, when they host the Philadelphia Rams at 1:00 pm at Belson Stadium, St. John's University, Flushing, New York.
