The Adelphi women's volleyball team traveled to Oakdale, New York on October 5 and 6 to compete in the Dowling tournament. The Panthers topped Pace and Millersville on day one and then ripped through Bryant on day two to improve to 14-3 overall.
Adelphi vs. Pace
The Panthers came out strong taking the first two games 30-19 and 30-21. In game three Pace fought back and tied the things at 25, however, Adelphi came out on top, taking the game and the match 30-27.
Junior Samantha Johnson led the Panthers with nine kills on the day along with her five service aces. Brittney Addeo had eight digs to go with her 23 assists to add to the Panthers offense. Sianna Johnson and Victoria Pompilus both had five kills to lead the Setters.
Adelphi vs. Millersville
In match two Adelphi University took on the Marauders of Millersville University. Game one was neck and neck with Millersville inching out the Panthers 32-30. Adelphi bounced back in the second game as Sophomore Kelsey Hackett pounded down eight kills to help Adelphi take game two 30-26.
Game three was another nail biter with Adelphi down by as many as nine points but rallied back to take the game 30-28. Kathleen Carney proved to be the spark the Panthers needed coming into the game and provided two service aces to tie the game at 20 along with her six kills. The fourth and deciding game went down in similar fashion with Millersville taking an early lead and Adelphi fighting back to take the match. Samantha Johnson tallied nine kills in the game to give her a new career-high with 26 for the match and added 25 digs to that total.
Adelphi vs. Bryant
The Panthers swept Bryant in three straight games to clench their third win of the tournament. Game two was neck and neck as Adelphi was able to pull away with a 30-28 victory. Bryant fought trying to push a game four but fell 32-30 to the Panthers.
Kathleen Carney led Adelphi with a total of 14 kills and Brittney Addeo tallied 31 of the Panthers 37 assists for the victory. Maureen Atkins led the Bryant defense with 16 digs and Likica Grceva added 11 kills and 8 digs.
Adelphi returns to action on October 9 when they play host to NYIT at 7:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
