Flushing, NY -
Against long time New York Metropolitan rival Columbia University, the Panthers posted their best outing of the season, dropping the Lions, 3-1. The Panthers improve to 3-10-3 overall, while Columbia falls to 3-10-1 overall.
Adelphi immediately began to apply the pressure on the Lions defense, ripping three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes, but they would not see success until the 12th minute. From 10 yards outside the penalty box, Kris Frick (Warwick, Bermuda) gained control of the ball and ripped a well placed shot in to the right side of the net, putting the Panthers up 1-0.
Adelphi continued the pressure on the Lions, maintaining control in Columbia's half of the field and holding them shot-less until the 21st minute.
Nearing the end of the first half, Rob Philippou (Manhasset, NY) put a shot on Colombia's goal, goalkeeper Michael Testa deflected the shot, but John Koutsounadis (Flushing, NY) was able to collect the rebound and put it in the back of the net for the Panther's second goal.
Adelphi continue the offensive immediately in the second half. In the 48th minute Philippou sent another shot at the Lion goal; again Testa was able to deflect the shot, but Patrick Figueiredo was right there to knock in the rebound and put Adelphi up 3-0.
The Panthers offensive charge would be halted in the 55th minute when the Lions drew a handball foul in the box, receiving a penelty kick. Tom Heinbockel shot right, Vincent Treglia (Brookville, NY) chose left, and the result put the Lions on the board, 3-1.
Treglia made three saves in his third victory of the season, while Testa made nine saves for Columbia.
The Panthers will next travel to Newark, New Jersey to take on the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Saturday, November 3.
