Men's Soccer Falls Short at Princeton, 4-3 in OT

Princeton, NJ - Adelphi senior Andrew Worth headed in a corner kick in the 68th minute, knotting the game at three and eventually forcing overtime. However, the Panthers fell, 4-3 when Princeton found the back of the Adelphi net 6:40 into the first overtime period. The loss drops Adelphi to 0-8-2 overall, while the Tigers improve to 2-6-1.

Princeton took a 2-0 lead on goals by Max Hare and Brad Fetcher. Hare chipped a ball over Adelphi goalkeeper Vincent Treglia in the 10th minute, while Fetcher netted a long shot from the left side of the box in the 29th minute.

In the 35th minute Rob Philippou sent a ball into the Princeton box where it was redirected into the back of the Princeton net, cutting the Tiger lead to one, 2-1. With just over two minutes left in the first half Princeton pushed the lead back to two goals when a cross was sent into the Panther box and redirected by a Tiger forward into the back of Adelphi's goal.

Patrick Figueiredo played give-and-go with Rob Phillipou to cut Princeton's lead to 3-2 in the 56th minute, while Worth tied the game with 21:48 left in regulation when he headed in Val Charalambous' corner kick.

Just over six minutes into the first overtime Princeton sent a ball into the Adelphi box, where it deflected off of an Adelphi defender and ended up at the feet of Princeton's Kyle McHugh. McHugh was five yards out when he gained possesion and slipped the ball past Treglia, giving Princeton a 4-3 win.

Princeton outshot the Panthers 15-11, including 7-2 in the first half. Adelphi had nine of the game's 11 corner kicks, however, including seven in the second half as the Panthers came from behind to tie the game.

Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, October 7 when they take on Fordham.
