Men's Soccer Wins At Home Over Philadelphia

Oct. 13, 2007

Box Score

Flushing, NY - On Saturday October 13 the Adelphi University men's soccer team gained it's first home victory of the year against the Philadelphia University Rams, 2-1. Patrick Figueiredo (Campinas, Brazil) led the team with two goals in the competition, moving the Panthers to 2-8-2 overall, 1-1 in the Atlantic Soccer Conference, while the Rams fall to 1-9-2, 1-1-1 in the ASC.

The Panthers applied the pressure quickly, launching three shots at goalkeeper Ezra Cassel in under four minutes. However, it wouldn't be until the 24-minute mark when they would see a goal. The play began off of a throw-in by Stephen Fregosi (Massapequa, NY) that reached Figueiredo for a shot on goal. The shot was deflected by Cassel, but he was unable to save Figueiredo's rebound shot to the left corner, putting the Panthers up 1-0.

Nearing the end of the first half, a red card on Kemalie Preston (Portmore, Jamaica) would force the Panthers to play a man down for the entire second half. The Rams took advantage of the situation immediately, scoring 30 seconds into the second half as Devon Klipp put the ball in the top left corner off a pass by John Cloud.

Adelphi showed determination as they answered during the 65th minute. Holding the defensive line until the right moment, Figueiredo received a pass from John Koutsounadis (Flushing, NY) that put him into a breakaway situation. Cassel was unable to save his bottom left corner shot, tallying Patrick's second, and the game winning goal of the match.

Vincent Treglia (Brookville, NY) made four saves during the home win over the Rams

The Panthers will return to action on October 17, at 7:00pm, when they take on Seton Hall in a non-conference match up on the road.
