Volleyball Falls in Five to Dowling

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to Dowling College on Thursday, October 11 in Woodruff Hall. The Panthers fell behind 1-0 after the first game, but battled back to take the next two games, before falling 3-2. The loss drops Adelphi to 15-5 overall and 2-2 in the East Coast Conference (ECC), while Dowling improves to 21-8 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Dowling moved out to an early 4-0 lead in game one, but Adelphi cut the Golden Lion lead to one, 11-10. However, that was as close as the Panthers could get dropping the first game, 30-23. Game two was a back and forth affair as no one was able to claim more then a two point lead until Dowling took control, 20-16. Adelphi battled back, knotting the game at 25 on their way to a 30-26 win.

Adelphi took control from the start in game three, moving out to a 13-3 on the strength of service from Brittany Addeo, Jennifer McKenna and Lauren Flanagan. The Panthers boasted a 12 point lead, 17-5, and never looked back, taking game three, 30-19. Game four was tight as Dowling tied it up at 15 off of a Kali Kuhl kill. From there the Golden Lions scored seven of the next eight points to take a 22-16 lead on the way to a 30-20 win, evening the match at two games apiece.

Game five was all Dowling, as the Golden Lions moved out to 6-3 lead. Adelphi battled back, knotting the game at seven, before Dowling closed out the match on an 8-3 run.

Justyna Michon led all players with 23 kills, while Patrycja Klekotka added 13 kills and 12 digs. Jessica Gall picked up a game-high 29 digs, while Erin Przbylowitz had 46 assists.

Addeo led all players with 50 assists, while Samantha Johnston chipped in a double-double, with 13 kills and 17 digs. Audrey Goss (13), Lauren Flanagan (12) and Kathleen Carney (12) also had double digit kills.

Volleyball returns to action on October 13 in Manchester, New Hampshire against Southern New Hampshire.
