Women's Basketball Falls Short Against Molloy, 68-65

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's basketball team trailed host Molloy 31-18 at the half in an East Coast Conference (ECC) match-up on January 25. The Panthers outscored Molloy 40-27 in the second half to force overtime, but the Adelphi comeback fell just short, 68-65. With the loss Adelphi falls to 7-10 overall and 6-4 in the ECC, while Molloy improves to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

Molloy held Adelphi scoreless for the first 5:25, jumping out to a 9-0 lead. The Panthers briefly cut the margin to just six, 12-6, before Molloy used an 8-2 run to push the lead back to double digits, 20-8, with 6:29 remaining in the first half. Despite Adelphi's best efforts the Panthers entered halftime trailing, 31-18.

In the second half the momentum shifted as Adelphi held Molloy to just 27 points, while putting up 40 of their own to knot the game at 58 and force overtime. In the extra period Molloy outscored Adelphi, 10-7, to secure a 68-65 win.

Randi Bender led Molloy with 18 points, while teammate Kymira Woodberry chipped in 13 points and 14 rebounds. Clarissa Jones also reached double figures, scoring 10 points.

Lisa Manetta (Glendale, N.Y.) paced Adelphi with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Mary Lepore added 16 points and nine rebounds. Valentina Ionova (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also hit double digits, scoring 10 points.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, January 27 when they take on NYIT at 2:00 pm in Old Westbury, New York.
