Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team made all six free throws attempted in the last minute of action, securing a 77-67 conference win over visiting C.W. Post in Woodruff Hall. With the win the Panthers improve to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the East Coast Conference, while the Pioneers fall to 10-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Adelphi jumped on C.W. Post early when back-to-back three-pointers from Donnell Cummings (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) and Samuel Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y.) sparked a 12-2 run that lasted the first 2:13. The Panthers expanded their lead to 11, 18-7, on an Anthony Noble (Uniondale, N.Y.) made free throw with 13:08 to play before C.W. Post used a 6-0 spurt to cut the margin to five, 18-13.

However, the Panthers scored five unanswered points to push the advantage back to double digits, 23-13 with 8:32 to play in the first half. The Pioneers would trim Adelphi's lead to five again on a Jonathan Schmidt lay-up with 2:45 to play, but would enter the locker room trailing the Panthers by nine, 37-38, thanks to a Cummings three-pointer.

The Panthers pushed their lead back to double digits early in the second half, thanks to a Cummings lay-up that gave Adelphi a 44-33 edge with 17:24 remaining. But, over the next seven minutes, the Pioneers would out score the host Panthers, 19-12 to pull within four points, 56-52.

The game was nip and tuck the rest of the way until C.W. Post cut the lead to just one point on a Schmidt made free throw at the 3:32 mark. Adelphi regrouped and scored the next eight points, including hitting six from eight free throw attempts, to put the game out of reach with 40 seconds left, 75-66.

Schmidt led the Pioneers with 14 points, while Brandon Butler chipped in 12 points and George Skrelja added 11 points and four rebounds. Maurice Whitehurst also reached double figures, scoring 10 points and pulling down five rebounds.

Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with 24 points, including hitting on all four attempts from beyond the arc, and pulled down seven rebounds. Cummings added 13 points, shooting a perfect five for five from the field and grabbed seven misses. Jenkins and Mike Mosby (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) also reached double digits, Jenkins added 11 points, while Mosby scored 12 points and grabbed seven boards.
