The Adelphi men's basketball team hit 14 of 26 field goal attempts in the second half, including 6 of 11 three-point attempts to pull away from host Dowling College and pick-up a 72-55 win. With the win the Panthers improve to 7-6 overall and 4-3 in the East Coast Conference, while Dowling falls to 4-10 overall and 3-4 in conference action.
The first half starting slow as neither team could get on the board until two Anthony Noble (Uniondale, N.Y.) made free throws at the 15:57 mark. From there Adelphi took control, moving out to an 11-6 lead on a Donnell Cummings (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) lay-up.
Dowling cut the lead to one, 11-10 before Adelphi answered with an 18-7 run to push their advantage to 12, 29-17, with 1:47 left in the first half. The Golden Lions managed to cut the lead to seven heading into halftime, 32-25.
Dowling opened the second half strong, cutting Adelphi's edge to four, 35-31, with 16:24 left in the game. However, the Panthers answered with an 8-2 spurt to push their advantage back to double digits, 43-33. From there Dowling would get no closer then six, falling 72-55.
Josh Lowe led the Golden Lions with 13 points and added eight rebounds, while teammate David Seagers chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Panthers placed four players in double figures led by Mike Mosby's (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) 18 points and eight rebounds. Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in 15 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while Samuel Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 14 points. Cummings also reached double figures, chipping in 10 points and six rebounds.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 20 when they play host to Bridgeport at 3:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
