Women's Soccer Outlasts NYIT, 1-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team held off NYIT with a 1-0 overtime win on Saturday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers remain undefeated at 7-0-3 and 3-0-1 in the ECC. The Bears fall to 4-6 and 2-1 in the conference.

The Panthers dominated the game, holding a 16-3 shot advantage over the Bears in regulation, but were unable to find the back of the net.

In the 91st minute, senior Michelle Giovaniello (Nesconset, N.Y.) fought through a crowd of defenders to chip the ball past the NYIT goalie. Sophomore Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.) was credited with the assist in her first game back from injury.

Junior Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had one save in the win for Adelphi, while Jenna Ament made seven stops in goal for NYIT.

Today's game marked the fourth overtime contest of the season for Adelphi with all occuring at home on Stiles Field. This is the first overtime win for the Panthers this season with the other three matches ending in ties.

As part of the Homecoming celebration, Adelphi honored 25 Years of Women's soccer prior to the start of the game. Approximately 50 alumni took part in an alumni game and brunch reception to recognize their accomplishments.

The Panther return to conference action on Wednesday, October 4, traveling to Flushing, New York to take on Queens College at 4:00 p.m.
