Women's Soccer Tops Lock Haven, 4-1

Garden City, N.Y. - Freshman Caitlin Morrison (Beacon, N.Y.) tallied two goals for the Adelphi University women's soccer team en route to a 4-1 victory over Lock Haven University. The Panthers remain unbeaten with a 6-0-3 record. The loss ends the Lady Eagles three-game win streak, as they drop to 7-5-0.

Despite a sluggish start, the Panthers managed to outshoot the Lady Eagles 8-0 in the first half. Action picked up in the second half as senior Tara Grodotzke (Rocky Point, N.Y.) put Adelphi on board in the 55th minute on a misplayed ball by the LHU goalkeeper. Morrison followed with her first goal, and the ultimate game-winner, at 68:18. Less than four minutes later, Morrison found the back of the net for the second time, this time on a feed from senior Michelle Giovanniello (Nesconset, N.Y.).

Senior defender Diana Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) accounted for the final Panther goal of the afternoon, recording her first collegiate goal at 78:26. Lopez, a mainstay in the Panther backfield, has started in 54 of 64 games played during her Adelphi.

Sophomore Bekhah Stonecypher (Johnstown, Pa.) snuck in a last minute goal for the Lady Eagles on a 30-yard shot at 89:22 to prevent the Panther shutout.

Junior Christine Conway (Rockeville Centre, N.Y.) had one stop forAdelphi while Emily Wagner (Brick, N.J.) made four saves in goal for Lock Haven.

The Panthers return to action this Saturday, September 30, hosting NYIT. Homecoming events, including the 25th Anniversary of women's soccer celebration, will also take place. The day begins with an alumni women's soccer game at 9:00 a.m., followed by an alumni reception at 11:00 a.m. Women's soccer alumni will then be honored on Stiles Field before the 2:30 p.m. kick-off.
