Women's Tennis Defeats STAC, 7-2

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2006 season after defeating the Spartans 7-2 at Hempstead Lake State Park on Monday, September 18. With the win, Adelphi's improves to 1-3 while STAC falls to 0-4.

Graduate student, Claudette Frysztacki (Wantagh, N.Y.) started the Panthers off in the right direction picking up a win over Alison Reeg 8-3 in her second flight singles match. Frysztacki's winning continued into her second flight doubles match, teaming up with senior Melissa Pashayan (Garden City, N.Y.) to defeat Ashley Bass and Alyssa Buttefield 8-3.

Also picking up wins in singles competition for the Panthers were seniors Missy Kutner (Bayonne, N.J.), Leah Moore (Abington, PA) and freshman Tricia Burns (Bristol, CT).

Rounding out Adelphi's scoring was the doubles team of Burns and senior Amanda Aniboli (West Islip, N.Y.), who defeated Jennifer Edlund and Sarah Hughes 8-4.

St. Thomas picked up its points from Caroline Gizzi, who came out a double winner, posting a victory over Pashayan in first flight singles 8-1. Gizzi then came back to team up with Reeg in the first flight doubles match, picking up the win 8-3 over Kutner and Moore.

Adelphi is back in action September, 21 at Concordia for another ECC match up.
