Women's Soccer Plays East Stroudsburg Even

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team opened its 2006 campaign with a 1-1 tie versus East Stroudsburg on Thursday afternoon at Stiles Field. Both teams are now 0-0-1 on the season.

The Warriors got on board first, as Dena Shleifer scored unassisted in the 17th minute. The Panthers held an 8-3 shot advantage in the first half but where unable score.

Adelphi continued to play aggressive in the second half and knotted the score at 53:53 as senior Michelle Giovanniello found the back of the net on a cross from sophomore Lauren Slattery.The game was called due to lightning in the 87th minute.

Adelphi outshot East Stroudsburg 16-5 in the contest and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Samantha Marina made eight stops for the Warriors while junior Christine Conway had one save for the Panthers.

Adelphi returns to action on Monday, August 28, as they host West Chester at 3:00 p.m.
