Adelphi gave up eight runs on eight hits, including a three-run home run, in the first inning of their NYCAC semifinal match-up with top seeded New Haven and never recovered, falling 16-4. With the loss the Panthers sit at 21-23, while the Chargers improve to 35-9 and advance to the NYCAC title game.
New Haven jumped on Adelphi early, scoring eight runs, including the final three on a home run to close out the first inning with an 8-0 lead. The Chargers tacked on another run in the bottom of the third, pushing their advantage to 9-0.
The Panthers battled back, getting four runs in the top of the sixth thanks to two RBI form Stephen Malvagna (East Meadow, N.Y.) and one each from Pat O'Neill (Oakville, CT) and Bryan Horrmann (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.). Adelphi's four runs cut New Haven lead to a manageable five runs, 9-4.
Unfortunately, New Haven five runs on just two hits in the bottom half of the sixth, taking a 14-4 lead en route to a 16-4 win.
