Women's Lacrosse Downs Molloy, 19-2

Garden City, N.Y. - Freshman Rachel Ray tallied two goals and two assists along with 13 draw controls to help the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 19-2 conference win over Molloy College this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 6-0 and 3-0 in the NYCAC while the Lions fall to 0-5-1 and 0-2.

Senior Dawn Anselmin notched the first goal and assisted on the second as Adelphi jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first thirty seconds of play. Molloy got on board on an unassisted goal by Allison Aguece in the fifth minute. Junior Meghan Blume scored the first of her three goals on a free position shot at 23:05 sparking a 6-0 Panther run to lead 8-1 at the half.

Junior Diana Lopez kept the rally going in the second half, as she found the back of the net on a feed from Ray in the 32nd minute. The score ballooned to 18-1 before Molloy would score again. Kristin Lang shot past Adelphi goalie Christina Kozakiewicz on an assist from Bernadette Vingerhoe with 3:57 remaining. Sophomore Grace Monjardo had the last word, scoring on an assist from freshman Nicole Lein with 24 seconds left in regulation.

Junior Allyson Murphy collected 11 saves in 52:32 minutes in goal. Kozakiewicz had two stops. Molloy's Alicia Frisch made six saves, while Carmen Sanfilippo had three.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 8, in what could prove to be the most important game of the season. The Panthers travel to Easton, Massachusetts to take on defending National Champs Stonehill College at 1:00 p.m. The game can be heard via the internet at Broadcast Varieties.
