The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team had 13 different players score goals in its 23-5 non-conference victory over host Southern Connecticut State University on Thursday night at Jess Dow Field. Adelphi (12-0) is ranked No. 2 in the latest national Division II coaches' poll.
The Panthers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the game's first six minutes behind two goals and an assist from Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.). Adelphi led, 9-1, with 11 minutes gone by and 14-4 at halftime. The Panthers then held Southern (3-9) scoreless for the first 29 ½ minutes of the second period.
Southern freshman Kaitlyn Janicki (Old Lyme, Conn.) scored three times. Goaltender Ann Denning (Holbrook, N.Y.) faced 48 shots and made 12 saves. Lopez scored a game-high four goals plus an assist, and Rachel Ray (Rocky Point, N.Y.) had three goals and three assists for Adelphi. Panther goalie Allyson Murphy (Williston Park, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the victory.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 29, traveling to Assumption College. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
