No.1 Women's Lacrosse Downs Bryant, 17-6

Garden City, N.Y. - Junior Lauren Lopez tallied five goals and three assists to lead the #1 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 17-6 victory over Bryant College at rain-soaked Stiles Field on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 11-0, snapping a four-game Bulldog streak as they fall to 7-4.

Senior Dawn Anselmin also had an impressive day, dishing out six assists to go along with three goals. Freshman Rachel Ray had three goals and an assist. Junior Tara Grodotzke had two goals in the effort.

Ray scored first for Adelphi, on an assist from Anselmin in the third minute of play. Anselmin accounted for two of the next four Adelphi goals to push the lead to 5-0. Shaun Leddy found the back of the net for the Bulldogs in 21st minute for the first of her four goals on the day. Less than 10 seconds later, junior Diana Lopez scored unassisted to make it 6-1. The Panthers led 8-2 at the half.

The deluge continued in the second half, with the Bulldogs taking advantage of the soggy conditions to score back-to-back goals in the opening minutes, 8-4. Diana Lopez collected her third goal on an assist from Lauren, sparking a 3-0 run. Lauren Lopez was responsible for three of the last six Adelphi goals and they cruised to victory, 17-6.

Junior Allyson Murphy had a stellar game, making nine saves while holding Bryant to just 2-of-7 on free position shots. Samantha Libby had five saves for the Bulldogs.

The Panthers are back in action on Thursday, April 27, traveling to Southern Connecticut State University. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
